30 March 2009
I went to San Francisco with an old friend, and we walked the Golden Gate Bridge back and forth. It was good fun, and among the many, many shots I got, was this one, an amusing reminder of a band Bond movie.

Real Time Bridge
A friend from school has put together a live webcam of the Golden Gate Bridge at http://www.goldengatecam.com/. There may well be others out there, but this one offers a nice view of the bridge (and probably quite often the fog obscuring the bridge) from the east. 30-second updates. Right now, the shot is pretty spectacular. I can't wait to take a look at the site around sunset, since I generally can't see the bridge at sunset from most anywhere I happen to be at the time.
Anyway, feel free to take a look. Guy didn't ask me to pimp it for him, but I'm doing so all the same.

Get 'em while they're young
Last night while I was walking home from my FLGS, I found myself near the protesters walking up Broadway on 10th Street. I took some pictures, and basically paced them until they stopped at 14th Street. There police in riot gear arranged themselves on two sides of the intersection. This officer was facing away from the protesters, officers on either side of him were facing in toward the street.

Thurgood Marshall Says: Separate But Equal Ain't
Here's the photoset from the rally for marriage equality on Friday 7 November. There were some particularly great signs, only I was able to get just a fraction of them. We walked from Civic Center, to Castro, and then down 18th Street to Dolores Park. KQED said there were a only thousand people , but they were on crack. It was inspiring to see so many people about, speaking out for fundamental civil rights.

Jay & Emily, First Dance
The pictures from this weekend's whirlwind trip to NY/NJ are up. The wedding was beautiful. The ceremony was a blast. It was a real treat to be there and to see so much of Erica's family again. And I took pictures. Feel free to find your way to the flickr page by clicking this link.

Cathedral Interior
I was standing just outside one of the side doors to take this shot. An employee of the construction company challenged me, and I told him that it was perfectly ok for me to be taking the picture. I was outside, after all, and the outside areas are no longer controlled, now that the chancery is open at the new location.
In the same photostream are some more shots taken with the newly expanded access to the campus complex.
I intend to contact the Chancery to see if I can get official permission to take photos of the complex. It would be nice to have even more access. Anyway, we'll see if I can get the access, but not until after I'm done with Summer Session.

Platform Ottumwa, and friends
I'm out of Oakland for a while, just over a week actually, and I've shared a couple of shots from the rail trip we took this week on Amtrak's California Zephyr and Capitol Limited trains.
The route took us through California, Nevada, Utah and Colorado, across Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois before changing trains at Chicago. Then we traveled into Indiana, Ohio, Maryland, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
Feel free to take a look at the flickr set here.
It was a fine trip, Amtrak delays aside, and I look forward to doing it again someday.

Working on our night moves
Stop Shooting Auto has an irregular homework assignment/photo contest covering different subjects in digital photography. The March contest was about bokeh, and the April/May contest is about capturing motion. This is the photo I submitted. I'm not yet skilled enough to fiddle with the image in post, but I am somewhat satisfied with it as is.
On a different photo-related subject, on Sunday afternoon I watched my friend S----- take some portraits, and I was really impressed with the way she framed the shots. This is a reminder to self to keep watching how other folk take pictures.
